Pension assistance for the long-term unemployed is a multi-year, comprehensive benefit for aging persons with an especially long history of unemployment to help them make a transition first from labour market subsidy to pension assistance and further to old-age pension at age 62. The statistics are produced on the basis of the statistical register on pension assistance for the long-term unemployed.
Recipients of pension assistance at the statistical reference time point, amount of the assistance, and benefit expenditure during the reference period.
The recipients are classified according to the composition of the assistance.
Compiled from individual-level statistical registers, which are based on benefit databases created in the course of administering the pension assistance for the long-term unemployed scheme.
Published monthly, quarterly and annually.
The monthly statistics are published within two weeks and the quarterly statistics within five weeks of the end of the statistical reference period.
The statistics are comparable starting from 1 May 2005, the date on which the assistance was introduced. Pension assistance recipients will have retired on an old-age pension by the end of 2009, which means that pension assistance is no longer paid during 2010. However, payment statistics may be revised by the addition of retrospective payments made before 2010.
