Amount and taxation

Basic Unemployment Allowance is EUR 31.36 per day and it is paid for 5 days per week. It is increased for children under 18 who live in the same household as the recipient. The increase is

  • EUR 5.24 per day for one child
  • EUR 7.69 per day for two children and
  • EUR 9.92 per day for three children or more.

Without child increase the amount of the Basic Unemployment Allowance is on average EUR 698 per month (21,5 x 32.46).

Basic Unemployment Allowance is taxable income subject to a 20 percent withholding rate. Alternatively, you can acquire a revised tax card for the receipt of social security benefits with a different withholding rate.

If you have incidental or part-time earnings while unemployed, they are adjusted with your Basic Unemployment Allowance. Your own income from capital or your spouse's income do not affect the amount of the allowance.

Other social security benefits may have an effect on the allowance.
