You can submit an application for Conscripts Allowance one month before you start your military service.
Conscripts
Kela provides a Conscript's Allowance for persons performing armed or unarmed military service or alternative service and for their spouse and children. Conscript's Allowance is also available for women performing voluntary armed service.
The Conscript's Allowance consists of the following:
- Basic Assistance
- Housing Assistance
- Maintenance Allowance
- Special Assistance and
- interest on student loans.
For conscripts
Conscripts can get Housing Assistance if they pay rent or a maintenance charge for their home while performing military or alternative service. Concripts may also be eligible for assistance with the interest on student loans if the interest falls due during the service.
Conscripts receive a per-diem allowance from the Finnish Defence Forces.
For the family members of conscripts
The spouse and children of conscripts may be eligible for Basic Assistance to help with living expenses. The Basic Assistance helps with such expenditures as food and clothing and assorted household expenses (e.g., TV licence and insurance premiums). The family members of conscripts may also get assistance with housing costs.
Special Assistance is available for families with extraordinary expenses on health care, child care, student loans or house moving, or exceptionally large commuting costs.
If a conscript is liable for child support but is unable to make the payments, Kela can pay the support for the eligible child.
