Good to know

Is there something you are still pondering? The section Good to know includes information on, for instance, how long the processing of a claim usually takes at Kela, how taxes are levied on different benefits and how to handle your interactions with Kela if your circumstances change or if the data concerning you are subject to restrictions on the release of data.

Almost all Kela benefits can be claimed online. Relevant documentation can also be sent online. You can check the status of your applications online. Received applications appear online after registration.

The applications are processed in order of arrival. Visiting the Kela office or calling Kela's telephone service is not a shortcut to quicker processing of your application.

As soon as your application has been determined, you will receive a letter of decision from Kela. The letter will tell you the payment date and the periods for which benefit is paid. Payment dates vary by benefit.

Large and small changes in circumstances can affect the Kela benefits in different ways. Please make sure to report to Kela if your circumstances change.
