Housing allowance for pensioners in relation to other benefits

Kela will not pay both the general housing allowance and the housing allowance for pensioners at the same time.

If you have other people besides your spouse/partner living with you, and they are not eligible for the housing allowance for pensioners, you can apply for general housing allowance.

If you have a spouse or partner who is living with you and who is a student, you both come within the scope of the housing allowance for pensioners scheme. Your student spouse or partner is not eligible for the housing supplement for students, because he or she is not considered to have own separate housing costs. If you are not a current recipient of or applicant for housing allowance for pensioners, your student spouse or partner can be paid general housing allowance  if all other requirements are met.
