Long-lasting sickness

If you have received sickness allowance for 60 working days (meaning that your sick leave has lasted about 80 days) and are still not well, Kela will evaluate whether your illness could be helped by means of rehabilitation. No application is required from you.

Daily allowance for 90 weekdays

If you are an employee and your work disability started 1 June 2012 or after, Kela asks you to deliver a statement by your occupational health doctor about the working capacity you still have and your possibilities to continue working no later than payment of yours sickness for 90 days.

If you have received sickness allowance for 150 working days (nearly 6 months), you will receive a letter from Kela telling you about various rehabilitation options available to you and, where appropriate, informing you how to apply for a pension or some other benefit.

Disability pension is normally not available until you have received sickness allowance for the maximum period (300 working days or about a year).
