Paternal leave
The rules concerning paternity leaves changed on 1 January 2013. The change is relevant to parents who began to receive special maternity allowance, maternity allowance or (applicable to adoptive parents only) parental allowance after 1 January 2013. If payment of the allowance began in 2012, the paternity allowance is paid in accordance with the previous legislation.
The father can take the following leave after the child is born:
- paternity leave for a maximum 54 working days (new legislation introduced 1.1.2013) OR paternity leave and daddy month (previous legislation).
- parental leave after the mother's maternity leave (the leave can also be shared with the mother, but you cannot take it at the same time).
- daddy month if the father has taken some of the parental leave.
- child care leave after parental leave.
- part-time child care leave if you return to work part time.
