Special Assistance
The Special Assistance is one of the components of the Conscript's Allowance. Conscripts' family members who are eligible for the Conscript's Allowance may be granted special assistance by Kela towards necessary and reasonable expenses, such as:
- other than minor health expenses (e.g. prescribed drugs, hospital charges, dental expenses, and the cost of eye examinations and the purchase of eyeglasses)
- child care expenses (including prams, beds or infant car seats, at the general price level)
- the interest due on a student loan taken out by a family member of the conscript
- removal costs
- burial costs and
- commuting costs exceeding 500 euros per year.
Special Assistance is not available for the purchase of furniture, home appliances, etc., or for appliance repair. It is also not available towards child care costs if the child is born after the month in which the conscript service ended.
Eligibility for Special Assistance requires that the costs are not covered by the Basic Assistance and that the claimant has not been granted other compensation for the same costs. Special Assistance covers only the reasonable costs that the claimant is expected to meet him- or herself, and only to the extent that they are payable during the conscript service or the month in which the service ends. Remember to claim the assistance during the month in which you paid the invoice.
