Description
The student financial aid statistics offer information about publicly funded financial assistance for students. They analyse financial aid recipients and expenditures from different perspectives, and also cover meal subsidies for higher education students, student loans, financial assistance and tax deductions in relation to interest on student loans, and loan guarantees to support adult education.
Data content
Recipient of financial aid, expenditure on financial aid, student loans guaranteed by the state, months of financial aid expended, persons having completed a degree, persons with outstanding student debt, persons having taken out a student loan, amount of outstanding student debt, income of financial aid recipients, subsidised meals.
Classifications used
Level of educational institution, level of education, type of housing, and general regional and demographic classifications.
Data collection methods and data sources
The financial aid statistics of Kela are compiled from individual-level statistical registers, which are based on benefit databases created in the course of providing student financial aid.
Updating frequency
Published monthly, once per calendar year and once per academic year.
Time of completion or release
The monthly statistics are published within five weeks of the end of the statistical reference period. The statistics specific to a calendar year or academic year are published by the middle of the calendar year/academic year following the statistical reference period.
Time series
The key statistical units (including recipients of financial aid and expenditure on financial aid) are comparable from academic year 1977/1978.
