The Finnish pension system is comprised, broadly, of two statutory schemes which respectively provide national pensions and earnings-related pensions. The statistics on the pensions provided by Kela present a general picture of pension provision by Kela.
Data content
The statistics contain data on pension beneficiaries and their benefits at specific points in time, the benefits having commenced during a specific period, and the expenditure on benefits during a specific period.
Classifications used
Benefit category, benefit composition, classification of municipalities according to the general cost-of-living classification, general regional classifications, classification of diseases (ICD-10), occupation and position, general demographic classifications.
Data collection methods and data sources
Compiled from individual-level statistical registers, which are based on benefit databases created in the course of administering pension schemes.
Updating frequency
Published monthly, quarterly and annually.
Time of completion or release
The monthly statistics are published within two weeks and the quarterly statistics within five weeks of the end of the statistical reference period.
Time series
Information about the pensions provided by Kela is available starting from 1942.
