Kela can pay you a national pension if you are covered by the Finnish social security system and you satisfy the following conditions:

  • you have lived in Finland for at least 3 years after reaching the age of 16
  • any other pensions or benefits you receive do not exceed a certain maximum limit.

To qualify for a national pension, any other pensions or benefits you receive may not exceed a certain limit. Any other income or property you have does not affect your national pension. The income of your spouse or partner does not affect it either, but the national pension is paid out at a lower rate for those living with a spouse or partner than for those who are living alone.

You may be entitled to a Finnish national pension even if you permanently live outside Finland.
