The statistics on the housing allowance for pensioners contain data on the allowance payments made by Kela. They provide statistical information about the recipients, their dwellings and housing costs, and the expenditure on housing allowances for pensioners. Together with the statistics on the general housing allowance, the housing supplement for students and the housing assistance for conscripts, they present an overall view of means-tested housing benefits.

Recipients of housing allowance for pensioners at the statistical reference time point, data about dwellings and the amount of housing allowance, and benefit expenditure during the statistical reference period.

Data collection methods and data sources

These statistics are compiled from a complete individual-level dataset on housing allowances for pensioners. It is produced from the benefit system for housing allowances for pensioners, which includes all of the data created and processed during the implementation of the housing allowance scheme.

Updating frequency

Statistics are published monthly and annually.

Time of completion or release

Data are made available in the Kelasto statistical database within four weeks of the end of the reference period.  Publication dates for statistical publications can be found in the release calendar.

Time series

Information about the housing allowance for pensioners is available since 1971. The statistical units are comparable from 1984.
