Payments of Kela benefits may be delayed during the postal strike
The strike may cause delays in the delivery of benefit applications and additional documents submitted by clients. As a result, payments of social benefits, especially unemployment benefits and social assistance, may be delayed. Clients are advised to use Kela’s e-services to complete and transmit their applications and supporting documentation.
The strike started on Monday, 11 December 2019. It may also delay the delivery of Kela’s decision letters to clients. The decisions will be accessible on Kela’s e-services, and the benefit payment dates will not be affected by any delays in mail deliveries.
Clients are advised to send applications and supporting documents via Kela’s e-services, where they can also look up the status of their applications. To log in to the e-services, clients can use their online banking credentials or mobile ID. Kela’s customer service points provide assistance in the use of the e-services.
Clients who cannot use the e-services are welcome to call Kela’s customer service by phone to submit an application or unemployment status report verbally. Applications can also be handed in at Kela’s customer service points.
Kela is monitoring the effects of the strike and will inform clients accordingly.
