Report days of unemployment
When Kela has approved your first application for an unemployment benefit, you must regularly file an unemployment status report with Kela if your unemployment continues. Kela continues to pay the unemployment benefit on the basis of your report.
File the first unemployment status report for the continued unemployment for a 2-week period. Thereafter, file a report every 4 weeks.
How to report continued unemployment
- Log in to our e-service OmaKela using your online bank credentials or a mobile ID. In the e-service you can see for which period the report should be filed and the first possible date for filing the report.
- Provide details about the continued unemployment for each day of unemployment. If you have worked or participated in activities agreed with the Employment and Economic Development Office, also report these days.
- Send the report. After that, you will receive a confirmation that the report was sent successfully.
If you receive wages, Kela gets information about this from the national incomes register. Kela uses this data when processing your application. We may ask for additional information, if necessary.
Report on a form
Alternatively, you can complete and print out the form Unemployment status report TT 2e (pdf). Mail the application along with the supporting documents to the address Kela, PL 10, 00056 KELA.
Report for self-employed persons
If you are a self-employed person and you receive temporary labour market subsidy due to the coronavirus outbreak from Kela, report the days of unemployment in accordance with the following instructions: Yrittäjän ohje työttömyysajan ilmoituksen täyttämiseen (pdf) (in Finnish). The processing of your application will be faster if you complete the unemployment status report as instructed.
How unemployment benefits are paid
The unemployment benefit is paid to you on a working day. The payment date is usually 2-3 days after you have filed the report.
Exceptions at Easter and Christmas
Due to Easter and Christmas, the unemployment benefit may be paid earlier. Check the exceptions to the reporting dates and payment dates in the e-service OmaKela.
