Fraudulent payment request sent on MobilePay in Kela’s name
A MobilePay user has received a payment request in Kela’s name. This is a scam. Kela will never use mobile payment systems to collect overpaid benefits.
Kela has learned of a case where a MobilePay user received a payment request purportedly from Kela. The request makes the incorrect claim that Kela is collecting benefit payments from the recipient. This is a scam. Kela will never use mobile payment systems to collect benefits or to transfer money.
All collection decisions issued by Kela are sent by mail. Customers can use the OmaKela e-service to see their payment details and any overpayment collection decisions that may have been issued to them. OmaKela requires users to verify their identity when logging in.
If you have received a request on MobilePay to pay back Kela benefits, do as follows:
- do not approve the request or transfer any money
- notify your bank
- notify the police

Kela has filed a police report and is investigating the matter together with other authorities.
