From 1.8.2002 the corona virus is no longer considered a work-related risk factor that would entitle pregnant employees to special pregnancy allowance. This is the case for all professions.
However, until 31.7.2022 special maternity allowance can be awarded as follows:
Pregnant employees who work in healthcare, early childhood education or classroom instruction may be entitled to special maternity allowance due to the risk of becoming infected with the corona virus, if there is no other work available that they can undertake instead.
Early childhood education and child welfare units
If you work in early childhood education or child welfare units and you are pregnant, you may be entitled to special maternity allowance due to the risk of becoming infected with the corona virus, if there is no other work available than you can undertake instead.
In the above-mentioned situations, eligibility for special maternity allowance does not require there to be any confirmed or suspected cases of coronavirus infection.
Classroom instruction
If you work as a teacher in classroom instruction, you may be entitled to special maternity allowance due to the risk of becoming infected with the corona virus, when the criteria for the special maternity allowance are considered to be met according to the precautionary principle.
Dental care
If you work in dental care and you are pregnant, you may be entitled to special maternity allowance due to the coronavirus, if
- it isn’t possible to provide work tasks for you that do not involve aerosols, or
- it isn’t possible for you to wear appropriate personal protective equipment when performing dental care tasks.
Healthcare and residential care facilities
If you work in healthcare or in a residential care facility, you may be entitled to special maternity allowance, if
- it isn’t possible to reassign you so as to avoid coming into contact with patients infected with coronavirus
