Interest payments on student loans

If you are performing conscript service, alternative non-military service or voluntary military service for women, Kela can provide conscript's allowance towards the interest payments on your student loans if they are due while you are in service or during the final month of service. This requires that you have not received financial aid in the academic term in which the interest is due, or in the previous academic term. If you have, the interest is capitalised (added to the loan principal).

The interest due on family members’ loans can be paid in the form of special assistance.

If you are applying for assistance towards interest payments on student loans, you should apply for it no later than the month that the interest is due. For example, if you apply for the assistance for student loan interest payments starting in January, the application must arrive in Kela in January.

File a separate application for each interest payment that falls due.

Assistance with student loan interest can be paid on any banking day.
