Employment in another EU or EEA country, Switzerland or the United Kingdom can count towards the work requirement needed to qualify for basic unemployment allowance from Finland.
If Kela finds that there is information in your application for basic unemployment allowance to indicate that your work abroad may count towards the work requirement needed to qualify for the allowance, Kela will request information on your periods of employment and other insurance periods from the country in which you have worked.
You can submit information on your employment abroad yourself by obtaining a U1 certificate from the unemployment authorities in the country in which you have worked and sending it to Kela. This certificate contains information on your employment periods and other insurance periods.
The International situations section of our website contains more information about unemployment coverage when moving to or from Finland.
