Kela's customer service points responsible for handling applications
Incoming applications and supporting documents are scanned and forwarded electronically to whichever Kela office will handle the processing of the application. Only applications for reimbursements of medical care expenses are still handled in paper form.
The application you submit to your local Kela's customer service points may be decided by an service points elsewhere in Finland.
If you wish to supplement your application, you can mail or drop off the additional materials at any Kela office. They are scanned and linked electronically with your application. To find out the contact information of Kela's customer service points, use customer service locator.
You can check the status of your applications online. Received applications appear online after registration. The e-service is so far available only in Finnish and Swedish.
If you apply for social assistance, the part of your application relating to basic social assistance is reviewed by Kela. If you also wish to apply for supplementary or preventive social assistance for expenses that the basic social assistance does not cover, you can say so in the application. At your request, Kela can forward your application to the municipal authorities for further review.
