Queues in Kela’s telephone service in foreign languages

There are currently queues in Kela’s telephone service in Arabic, Somali and Russian. The waiting times can be long, and we are unable to answer all the calls.

The nationwide telephone service in foreign languages is intended for customers who are as yet unable to handle their Kela-related matters in Finnish, Swedish or English. The telephone service is intended to make it easier for customers to handle their Kela-related matters, to promote integration and to reduce the need for interpreter assistance.

As the language skills of the customers improve, they will be directed towards using Kela’s Finnish, Swedish or English language services. The customers can also get guidance on how to handle Kela-related matters online and they are encouraged to handle their Kela-related matters independently.

– Currently customers who previously have contacted Kela in Finnish or Swedish also call the service numbers in Arabic, Somali and Russian. We hope that they will continue to use our services in Finnish or Swedish, says Sanna Piironen, Head of Section at the Customer Service Unit for the Greater Helsinki Area.

In the Finnish and Swedish telephone services the situation is currently good, the waiting times are short and an appointment for service by phone can be booked in a couple of days.
