Updated website with information on rehabilitation and adaptation training courses offered by Kela

Kela offers access to rehabilitation and adaptation training courses designed for persons with specific illnesses or in specific situations. All of the courses offered by Kela can now be found on the new rehabilitation courses page.

Every year, Kela provides access to rehabilitation and adaptation training courses for persons with any of more than 40 illnesses or impairments. During the course, the participants receive information about their diagnosis and get peer support and help with how to manage in daily life.

Participants in adaptation training courses typically have a recent diagnosis of an illness or impairment which is of a long-term or permanent nature and which requires them to learn new ways to go about their lives and to make lifestyle changes. The adaptation training courses help clients and their families to adjust to the changes brought about by an illness or a disability.

Persons seeking access to rehabilitation courses are more likely to have lived with an illness for longer. The course provides support and rehabilitation to help clients to recover from their condition.

Information in English about the rehabilitation and adaptation training courses offered by Kela can now be found on the new Rehabilitation and adaptation training courses - kela.fi webpage.

Concise and useful information

All of the courses offered by Kela are listed in the menu alphabetically and according to medical condition. For each course, the page provides essential information for applicants, such as the intended target group, the course objectives, whether family members can accompany the participants, and how the course is arranged and what is its duration.

There is also a link to a rehabilitation course search tool (in Finnish), which shows the time and date, location and the number of available seats on the course. The pages offer recommendations for the best search terms to use to find specific courses.

Courses for different age groups

Rehabilitation courses are arranged for both those who are in employment and those who are not. For most courses, there are versions for specific age groups. All courses aimed at children are arranged as family courses.

Most of the rehabilitation and adaptation training courses are offered in Finnish, but some are also available in Swedish and Sámi. Participants speaking some other language can opt to have an interpreter join them for the individually customised part of the course.
