Kela continues its partnership with Helsinki Pride in 2021

Kela is an official partner of Helsinki Pride, Finland’s largest human rights event.

Helsinki Pride will take place between 28 June and 4 July 2021, with Kela joining for the sixth time. Kela has been an official collaborative partner since 2019.

This year as well, Helsinki Pride will be organised as a hybrid event. Individual events in physical groups will be arranged to the extent possible under the government’s recommendations. Due to the current epidemic, the traditional Pride Parade will not take place.

Partnership with Helsinki Pride is part of Kela’s equality, non-discrimination and accountability agenda. Kela encourages other public-sector organisations to join as well.

Helsinki Pride is the largest cultural and human rights event in Finland. It is organised by Helsinki Pride Community. Pride events have been organised in Finland since 1975.

Rainbow network at Kela celebrates the partnership with Helsinki Pride

Staff at Kela formed a rainbow network at around the time of the 2019 Helsinki Pride Week. The network currently has more than 50 members.

The network is headed by Kaaren Erhola, who says that for members of Kela's LGBT+ community, the fact that Kela as an employer is participating in Helsinki Pride is a sign of its public support and commitment to non-discrimination and equality. “As members of the rainbow network at Kela, we’re happy to join in the celebration of human rights that the Helsinki Pride Week represents,” Erhola says.

Kela also participates in the Finnish Government’s network for cooperation on LGBTI issues.
