The statistics on maternity grants provide information about recipients and expenditure. They also show the amounts of adoption grants paid out.

Data content

Recipients (families), children for whom a maternity grant was paid, grants paid, euro amount of grants paid.

Classifications used

Type of maternity grant (maternity package or cash grant), number of children receiving maternity grant in family, earned income of mother, number of older children in family, preceding birth interval, number of children adopted from abroad, amount of adoption grant paid, country of adoption, general regional classifications and demographic classifications.

Data collection methods and data sources

The statistics are compiled from individual-level datasets. They are produced from the benefit system for maternity and adoption grants, which includes all of the data created and processed during the implementation of the schemes.

Updating frequency

Published monthly and annually.

Time of completion or release

Data are made available in the Kelasto statistical database within four weeks of the end of the reference period.

Time series

The main statistical units are comparable from 1994, when the administration of the maternity grant scheme was transferred from municipal social welfare boards to Kela.
