Vocational rehabilitation supporting the integration into work

This type of rehabilitation may be for you if your health or overall situation is such that you need individual coaching to help you find a job, occupation or education. The coach can also help you find gainful employment or become self-employed.

Three programme alternatives

Vocational rehabilitation supporting the integration into work features three programme alternatives: work try-out, job coaching and the two combined. Kela helps you choose the programme that best fits your rehabilitation needs.

The rehabilitation is implemented as an individual service in accordance with your goals. It may include a few days of group activity to help you reach your goals. The rehabilitation is arranged in your commuting area, i.e., as close to your home as possible. Your medical treatment must be at a stage that allows you to commit to work outside home.

Work try-out

A work try-out is right for you if your goal is to put together a career plan, choose an education, or set concrete goals for your work. During a work try-out, you work on a trial basis at a workplace that you choose yourself. A coach will help you choose a suitable occupation, education or job.

The try-out lasts 3 to 6 months and may be continued as job coaching.

Job coaching

Job coaching can be for you if you need support in finding employment and your goal is to get a paid job. It can help you find a job, get work in the open labour market and offer you a pathway to paid employment. You can also go into self-employment.

Job coaching lasts 3 to 21 months.

Work try-out in combination with job coaching

The combination of work try-out and job coaching is right for you if you need a great deal of support from a coach to help you define your career goals and discover an occupation and job description that fits your work capacity.

The process begins with a work try-out during which a coach will support you in putting together a career plan, choosing an occupation, and making sure that your chosen occupation is suitable for you. This is followed by job coaching which helps you look for paid employment in your chosen field and make the transition into paid work. You can also go into self-employment.

The combination of work try-out and job coaching lasts from 6 to 26 months.

The rehabilitation services are provided free of charge. During rehabilitation, you may also be entitled to a rehabilitation allowance. Finally, Kela also offers compensation for rehabilitation-related travel costs.
