Orphan's Pension
In the event of the death of a parent or other provider of a child, Orphan's Pension offer financial security for the surviving children. The pension consists of a basic amount and additional amount.
Eligibility criteria
In the event of the death of a parent, Kela and the deceased parent's earnings-related pension provider will pay an orphan's pension until the child is 18. Orphan's Pension is payable also following the death of a step parent or a foster parent.
Kela will continue to pay Orphan's Pension until the age of 21 if the child is a full-time student. This pension consists only of the basic amount.
Coordination with other benefits
Orphan's Pension is not payable for young persons who are paid disability pension in accordance with the National Pensions Act or an equivalent from abroad.
