Information leaflet on changes to benefits available for customer guidance in several different languages

Published 26/3/2024

On 1 April 2024, cuts will be made to the general housing allowance and unemployment benefits available from Kela. The benefits of around half a million customers will be affected. Our new information leaflets provide information on the changes in several languages.

The cuts passed by Parliament will take effect on 1 April. The cuts to the unemployment benefits will reduce benefits immediately, as of April. General housing allowances will be reduced when next reviewed, which will take place no later than March 2025. Social assistance will be affected as well.

Key information about the changes is available on the www.kela.fi/changes-to-benefits page at kela.fi. The page includes answers to frequently asked questions. The kela.fi page is available in Finnish, Swedish and English.

In addition, Kela has published an information leaflet in 11 languages about the cuts to the general housing allowance and unemployment benefits. The leaflet can be freely downloaded and printed out from Kela's website.

The leaflet is also available in Finnish sign language and Finland-Swedish sign language.

Kela.fi pages written in plain Finnish or Swedish can be useful when advising customers whose first language is not Finnish. The plain language pages provide basic information on Kela benefits without including every detail. The plain language pages are here: www.kela.fi/selkokieli.
