Increases in pensions and disability benefits in 2024
Pensions and disability benefits will be increased by 5.9% in line with the National Pensions Index at the start of 2024. Kela will increase pensions and disability benefits automatically. Customers do not have to take any action.
As a result of the index adjustment, for example, the full monthly national pension in Finland increases from 732.67 euros to 775.70 euros, the full amount of the guarantee pension increases from 922.42 euros to 976.59 euros and the basic care allowance for pensioners increases from 78.72 euros to 83.34 euros.
In October, Kela confirmed the value of the National Pensions Index for the period beginning 1 January 2024. Most benefits provided by Kela are tied to the National Pensions Index. For next year, the Government is proposing not to increase all Kela benefits in line with the index. However, the proposal does not apply to the pensions and disability benefits paid by Kela, which will receive the normal increases.
Increases in pensions
In 2024, the full amount of the national pension for recipients living alone will be 775.70 euros per month (previously 732.67 euros per month). The corresponding amount for those living together with another person will be 692.54 euros per month (previously 654.13 euros per month).
The full amount of the guarantee pension will be 976.59 euros per month (previously 922.42 euros per month).
The other pensions will also be index adjusted upwards by 5.9%. In 2024, the initial pension for surviving spouses will be 383.30 euros per month, and the basic amount of the continuing pension 120.06 euros per month. The basic amount of the orphans' pension will be 70.53 euros per month.
The increase available to pensioners with a dependent child under 16 years of age will be 25.92 euros per month.
The front-veterans’ supplement will be 146.28 euros per month, while the additional front-veterans' supplement will be 300.97 euros per month for recipients living alone and 263.55 euros per month for those living together with another person.
Going forward, recipients of disability and guarantee pension will be able to earn more without having to put the disability pension on hold. Recipients of a disability pension can in 2024 earn a maximum of 968.70 euros per month without any effect on the further payment of the disability pension or guarantee pension.
Increases in disability benefits
Disability allowances are adjusted to index on 1 January 2024. The new rates will be as follows:
Disability allowance for persons under 16 years of age
- basic rate: 108.89 euros per month (previously 102.85 euros per month)
- middle rate: 254.10 euros per month (previously 240 euros per month)
- highest rate: 492.71 euros per month (previously 465.38 euros per month)
Disability allowance for persons aged 16 years or over
- basic rate: 108.89 euros per month (previously 102.85 euros per month)
- middle rate: 254.10 euros per month (previously 240 euros per month)
- highest rate: 492.71 euros per month (previously 465.38 euros per month)
Care allowance for pensioners
- basic rate: 83.34 euros per month (previously 78.72 euros per month)
- middle rate: euros 181.56 per month (previously 171.49 euros per month)
- highest rate: 383.92 euros per month (previously 362.62 euros per month)
- disability supplement for war veterans: 125.79 euros per month (previously 118.81 euros per month)
