It is now possible to renew prescriptions using the MyKanta mobile application

Published 26/8/2025

The first version of the MyKanta application has been released in Finnish and Swedish. The mobile application now allows you to view and renew prescriptions, and to enable notifications concerning new and renewed prescriptions. Other features will be added to the application in stages.

MyKanta has more than a million monthly users, most of whom use the service on their phone or tablet. Renewing prescriptions is one of the most commonly used functions in MyKanta, and the MyKanta application now makes it even more convenient. You can download the application in Finnish or Swedish for free from the App Store or Google Play.

The MyKanta application is easy to use and logging in is quick and secure. You can log in to the application using a password of your choice or with fingerprint or facial recognition.

The application allows you to enable notifications concerning new and renewed prescriptions.

“MyKanta has become an important part of people’s everyday lives. Now the familiar service is also available in an app format. The app’s functions, such as rapid authentication and notifications concerning renewed prescriptions, will be especially helpful for those who use MyKanta frequently,” says Mira Liski, Kanta Services Development Manager at Kela.

More features are on the way

New features will be added to the MyKanta application in stages. The next function to be added will be the possibility to view entries recorded by doctors and nurses. The possibility to view laboratory test results and enable notifications concerning new laboratory test results and entries recorded by doctors and nurses will also be introduced.

Other functions will be developed in the application based on both national needs and user requests.

“We are developing the application to benefit our clients. The feedback and development suggestions from MyKanta users will influence what functions will be added to the application next,” says Liski.

The MyKanta application is being developed in cooperation with various stakeholders, including the wellbeing services counties. This will ensure seamless digital use of the services in social welfare and healthcare services across the country.

MyKanta in brief

MyKanta is a nationwide digital service for citizens to manage their social welfare and healthcare matters, and it is a part of Kela’s comprehensive Kanta Services.

Nearly all Finns are familiar with MyKanta: in 2024, 3.2 million people used the service, with 37.8 million log-ins to the service.

In MyKanta, everyone can view their own health data, such as patient data recorded by doctors, as well as prescriptions and laboratory results. It has also been possible to view social welfare services data in MyKanta since 2023.

There are two ways to use MyKanta:

  • by downloading the application onto your phone or tablet from an app store
  • by logging in to the online service at www.kanta.fi.

Not all of MyKanta’s functions are available in the mobile application. You can continue to use these functions on the MyKanta online service, which can be accessed by logging in at kanta.fi.
