Kela asks employers who use eSARA files to use other e-services instead

Published 27/3/2025

It will no longer be possible to send eSARA files to Kela through the Ilmoitin.fi service after 30 September 2025. Kela recommends that all employers who use eSARA files to apply for Kela benefits should start using other e-services instead as soon as possible. The Incomes Register is recommended for large employers, while smaller employers can use either the Incomes Register or the daily allowance and reimbursement service for employers. Applying for Kela benefits in the Incomes Register requires payroll software that can be used to upload employee absence data.

Kela will soon stop accepting eSARA files because the technology has become outdated. The last day eSARA files can be sent to Kela is 30 September 2025.

Employers who intend to start using the Incomes Register to apply for Kela benefits instead must ensure that their payroll software allows them to upload employee absence data to the Incomes Register. These employers must also consent to receiving electronic decision notices in the daily allowance and reimbursement service for employers and make sure that they have provided their bank account number to Kela before they can start using the Incomes Register to apply for Kela benefits.

The Incomes Register is a good option especially for large employers who interact frequently with Kela and submit large numbers of applications. Employers can easily apply for benefits in the Incomes Register with the help of their payroll software. The application process is largely automated, and employers can submit applications for several employees at once. Since the beginning of this year, the Incomes Register has allowed employers to also apply for partial sickness allowance and the compensation for annual leave costs.

The daily allowance and reimbursement service for employers a good choice for smaller employers

Smaller employers who have so far used eSARA files can also opt to apply for Kela benefits through the Incomes Register from now on. Another alternative is to use the daily allowance and reimbursement service for employers. The service can be used to apply for benefits for one employee at a time.

The daily allowance and reimbursement service for employers is a good choice for smaller employers who apply for benefits less often. The service will guide the user every step of the way to ensure the application is completed correctly. Employers can also use the service to submit supporting documents to Kela for one employee at a time.
