Two ways to seek therapy

Kela arranges psychotherapy both in the form of intensive medical rehabilitation and rehabilitative psychotherapy. How do these two forms of rehabilitation differ from each other?

Psychotherapy in the form of intensive medical rehabilitation and rehabilitative psychotherapy are intended for slightly different situations. The following gives a short summary of the differences:

Psychotherapy in the form of intensive medical rehabilitation is targeted at persons whose illness is so severe that it makes everyday life significantly more difficult and who have difficulties in coping with everyday chores. The rehabilitation is based on an individual rehabilitation plan made up in a public health care unit.

Rehabilitative psychotherapy, for its part, is intended for persons whose mental disorder poses a risk to the person’s study or work capacity. Rehabilitative psychotherapy aims at supporting study and work capacity. It helps you make progress with your studies and stay on in working life, or enter or return to working life.

It is important to discuss with a health care professional in detail about your situation and your needs. Health care professionals can help you determine which form of rehabilitation suits you. Health care professionals recommend a certain form of rehabilitation always on the basis of your individual needs and situation.
