The annual maximum limit on out-of-pocket medicine costs will rise to EUR 636.12 next year. If you use a lot of prescription medicines, it is worthwhile to monitor how your own payments accumulate, as the limit is always reset at the turn of the year.

This year, the annual maximum limit is EUR 633.17. Once you reach this amount, you will pay only a EUR 2.50 copayment for each reimbursable medicine for the rest of the year. If you exceed the annual maximum limit, the pharmacy will be informed directly by Kela, but you can also track the accumulation in OmaKela.

Remember that the annual maximum limit applies to the calendar year. If the limit has already been reached, it is worthwhile to take advantage of the additional reimbursement for medicines for the rest of the year. You can follow the accumulation in OmaKela.

Also keep in mind that medicine reimbursements include an initial deductible. This means that each year you pay for your medicines yourself up to this amount before you can receive reimbursement from Kela. This year the initial deductible is EUR 70, and next year it will be EUR 70.33.
