Streamlined access to social security
Kela’s goal is to streamline the application process for social security benefits and to simplify the social security system.
The existing benefit system is complicated for Kela’s customers to navigate. A broad spectrum of legislation, drawn up over a long period of time, applies to the social security system. From the perspective of Kela’s customers, the complexity and multiplicity of this body of legislation manifests as a multitude of overlapping concepts and a fragmented system that may make it difficult for our customers to predict what kind of social security they can expect to get when their life situation changes.
The development of the Finnish social security system is part of Kela’s broader social mission whereby we build trust and ensure a sustainable social security system in both the present and the future.
Our goal is to ensure that Kela is customer oriented and customer friendly. This means more streamlined customer services that can be accessed with less effort and faster processing times for benefit applications. We seek to achieve this goal with the implementation of Eepos, our strategic development programme.
We take our ever-changing international operating environment into account in everything we do. For example, EU regulation has an impact on almost all Kela benefits when Finns move within the EU. We engage in international cooperation with entities across the globe and strive to ensure that our customers can access social security services both at home and abroad.
