How to apply for an orphan’s pension from Kela
For a child under 18 years of age, the application can be made on the child's behalf by his/her guardian. A separate application is needed for each child.
- Apply for orphan's pension for a child aged under 18 years on form Orphan’s Pension (ETK/Kela 7005e, PDF).
- A young person aged over 18 years who is studying can apply for an orphan's pension for students on form Lapseneläke 18–20-vuotiaalle opiskelijalle (E 292, PDF, in Finnish).
- Mail your application along with the supporting documents to Kela, PL 10, 00056 KELA or the authorised pension provider of the deceased. You can also send the supporting documents in a message by using our e-service. Please note that the e-service is available in Finnish and Swedish only.
You can apply for a orphan’s pension provided by an authorised pension provider also from your authorised pension provider. Go to the e-service of the pension provider here. Use your online banking user ID and password to log into the service. In the pension provider’s e-service, you can at the same time also apply for a spouse’s pension from Kela.
When to apply
Orphan's pension can be applied for from the beginning of the month following the death of a parent. Applications can be backdated up to 6 months.
