Previous versions of the maternity package

Distribution of the maternity package began in 1938. The contents change annually. While the selection of items remains similar, some completely new items are often added as well. The colours and patterns change yearly. Over the years, the maternity package has become more environmentally friendly.

The maternity package enjoys widespread popularity. About 87% of first-time mothers choose the package over a €170 cash grant.

On this page, you will find pictures of the maternity packages starting from 1994. The administration of the maternity grant was transferred to Kela in 1994. Until then, it had been administered by the National Board of Social Welfare (currently the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare) and the Government Purchasing Centre.
