Interest payments on student loans

If you are performing conscript service, alternative non-military service or voluntary military service for women, Kela can provide conscript's allowance towards the interest payments on your student loans if they are due while you are in service or during the final month of service. This requires that you have not received financial aid in the academic term in which the interest is due, or in the previous academic term. If you have, the interest is capitalised (added to the loan principal).

Special assistance may be available towards the interest payments due on a family member's student loan.

If you apply for assistance with student loan interest payments and the payments are due every six months, you must apply for the assistance separately for each interest payment period. Submit the application no later than the month that the interest is due. If your student loan interest payments are due to be paid monthly, you only need to submit one application. For example, if you apply for the assistance for student loan interest payments starting in January, the application must arrive in Kela in January. Conscript’s allowance may only be granted for interest payments that are due while you are in service.

Assistance with student loan interest can be paid on any banking day.
