Processing times for applications

Processing time means how long it takes Kela to process an application from the day Kela gets the application to when Kela issues a decision on it. This page gives you an estimate of how long it usually takes us to process applications for different benefits.

We update our estimates if they change significantly.

Welcome to our new page for application processing times. Our goal is to tell you more clearly how long it will take us to process your application.

Why is the processing time longer in some cases?

It may take us longer to process an application if

  • the application is missing information or supporting documents that we have asked for
  • we get a lot of applications at once, for example in December–January, if there are changes that affect one or more benefits
  • an application has been returned to us for a review because of an appeal.

Please also note that our processing times are longer in international situations.
