If you wish to use certain specified interpreters, you can compile an interpreter list.
Suggest interpreters that you would like to use for the list. We will strive to forward your bookings primarily to them. This ensures that you receive high-quality and well-functioning interpreter service.
Compiling an interpreter list is voluntary. If you do not want an interpreter list, we will look for an interpreter for you who works near the place where you need interpreter service.
If you only wish to use interpreters from your list, inform Kela about this. Then we will not forward your bookings to other interpreters. However, in this case, it is possible that we cannot always find an available interpreter. If this happens, we will inform you about it.
You can specify an interpreter for certain purposes
You may only have one interpreter list. If you wish, you can assign interpreters for certain purposes. You can for instance tell us which interpreters you would like to use for work-related assignments, hobbies or remote interpretation.
You can also tell us that you will use a certain interpreter only in certain situations. If you for instance specify a certain interpreter only for work-related assignments, we will not assign this interpreter to you in other situations.
You can be assigned an interpreter who is not included in your list if
- your list only includes interpreters who have been specified for specific purposes only, and your booking concerns something else
- none of the interpreters on the list are available and you have not forbidden the use of other interpreters
If you will give birth to a child, go on a trip abroad or participate in a close family occasion, you can ask for a specific interpreter for this. No interpreter list is needed in such cases.

How to draw up and update an interpreter list
- Find out more about the service providers in your area. Information about the interpreters is available on the service providers’ websites.
- Suggest interpreters for your list who work in your place of residence or nearby.
- If you regularly need interpreter service outside your place of residence, you can suggest an interpreter who works near the place where you need interpreter service.
- You can specify interpreters for different purposes, such as work-related assignments or hobbies.
- You can update your list and remove or add interpreters.
- Suggest interpreters for inclusion on your interpreter list
- You can also ask Kela to suggest interpreters for your list.
The goal is for the interpreter to work as close as possible to your municipality of residence (kotikunta) or the place where you need an interpreter.
Before you can start using the interpreter list, we will check
- that the interpreters are suitable for your list
- that the interpreters are available.
If the interpreter you have suggested is not suitable, we will contact you. When the interpreter list is ready, we will send it to you.
The interpreter can also decide not to be included in your list anymore. If this happens, we will inform you about it.
We can also suggest interpreters for you, if we for instance notice that you are often left without an interpreter.
