Decisions and documents in OmaKela

Decisions will be sent to you by mail and via OmaKela. When you receive a new decision or letter, a message about this is shown on the front page in OmaKela. All your decisions and letters are easily accessible under Päätökset ja muut asiakirjasi.

All documents sent to you will be available in OmaKela for about two years.

Give up paper documents

You can give up paper documents by reporting this to us via OmaKela. You will then receive decisions, letters and other documents exclusively online. 
When you give up paper documents, you will be informed about your decision quicker than by ordinary mail. According to your choice, you will receive a text message or an e-mail from us immediately when the decision is accessible in OmaKela. 

Most decisions from Kela can already be received exclusively online. However, for technical reasons we still have to send some documents by mail.

The following decisions and letters can be received exclusively online:

 

  • letters and decision notices concerning basic social assistance 
    • Decision notices that contain a voucher on paper will also always be mailed to you.
  • letters and decision notices concerning general housing allowance
  • letters and decision notices concerning housing allowance for pensioners
  • some letters concerning recovery
  • some letters and decision notices concerning student financial aid
  • letters and decision notices concerning the healthcare fee for higher education students
  • letters concerning student loan guarantee for adult students
  • letters and decision notices concerning benefits for families with children 
    • adoption grant
    • child maintenance allowance
    • special pregnancy allowance
    • child benefit
    • child care allowance
    • pregnancy allowance
    • parental allowance
    • partial parental allowance

Do as follows if you wish to give up paper documents

  1. Log in to OmaKela.
  2. Go to Päivitä omia tietojasi (Update your information).
  3. Under Omat tiedot (My details), select Luovu paperipostista (Give up paper documents) and answer ”kyllä” (yes) to the question ”Haluatko luopua paperipostista?” (Do you wish to give up paper documents?).
  4. Enter a phone number or an e-mail address and give Kela permission to send you messages. You will be notified of new decisions or letters by text message or e-mail.
