Decisions and documents

You can view your decisions in the OmaKela e-service (available in Finnish and Swedish). Decisions and letters sent to you can be viewed in OmaKela under Päätökset ja muut asiakirjat (Decisions and other documents). The decision letter will also be sent to your home address unless you have opted out of paper mail.

All documents sent to you will be available in OmaKela for six years. If you need a decision that was issued earlier, you can ask us to mail it to your home address. Use the OmaKela e-service to send a message or call our customer service.

Do as follows if you wish to give up paper documents

You can give up paper documents by reporting this to us via OmaKela. When you opt out of paper mail, you will no longer be sent paper copies of decisions, letters or other documents. You can view them only in OmaKela.

  1. Log in to OmaKela.
  2. Go to Päivitä omia tietojasi (Update your information).
  3. Under Omat tiedot (My details), select Luovu paperipostista (Give up paper documents) and answer ”kyllä” (yes) to the question ”Haluatko luopua paperipostista?” (Do you wish to give up paper documents?).
  4. If you have not stated a phone number or an e-mail address, please do that on the same page. Also give Kela permission to send you messages. You will get a text message or an e-mail when you can view the decision in the e-service.

Please note that we still have to send some documents also by mail even if you opt out of paper mail.

  • Survivors’ pensions
  • Child increase to the pension
  • Pension assistance
  • Interpreter service for the disabled
  • Loan guarantee for adult students

In addition, we also send some information letters as well as payment vouchers in connection with social assistance by mail.

You will be prompted to enable Suomi.fi messages when you log in to OmaKela

As of 12 May 2025, you will be prompted to enable Suomi.fi messages when you log in to OmaKela or the e-services of other public authorities. You will be prompted each time you log in, unless you have enabled Suomi.fi messages. You can enable Suomi.fi messages while you log in or ignore the prompt.

If you enable Suomi.fi messages, you will get most messages from public authorities in electronic form in the Suomi.fi messages (suomi.fi) instead of as paper mail. Enabling Suomi.fi messages does not affect the way Kela sends decisions and letters to you. If you wish to receive decisions and letters from Kela only in OmaKela, opt out of paper mail in OmaKela.

Read the instructions from the Digital and Population Data Services Agency:

The Suomi.fi messages are a service provided by the Digital and Population Data Services Agency where you can read messages sent by public authorities in electronic form. You can read the messages either in the Suomi.fi mobile application or at suomi.fi/messages.

Alerts for new messages are sent to the e-mail address you have stated in the service. Those who use the Suomi.fi application get alerts also via the application.

Kela will start using Suomi.fi messages in June. This means that you will get alerts for new decisions and letters in the Suomi.fi messages, if you have enabled Suomi.fi messages and opted out of paper mail from Kela. If you have not enabled Suomi.fi messages, you will also henceforth get alerts from Kela by text message or e-mail.
