Business units
Kela's organisation is divided into five business units:
- Local Customer Service
- Nationwide Customer Service
- Unit for IT and Security Services
- Information Services
- Shared Services
and two operational units:
- Strategic Management Unit
- Communications Unit
The results unit of the customer's local services is responsible for customer service in all service channels as well as customer advice and guidance.
The business unit includes five regional customer service units.
- Southern customer service unit
- Eastern customer service unit
- Central customer service unit
- Western customer service unit and Kela Åland Islands
- Northern customer service unit
People living in Åland are served by Kela Åland
In addition, the business unit has one Customer Relations Development Unit
The Nationwide Customer Service business unit is involved in legislative planning and reform efforts in the area of benefit provision.

In addition, the business unit has a Customer Relations Unit, a Medical Advisory Unit and a Benefits and Services Planning Unit.
The Unit for IT and Security Services is responsible for producing, developing, maintaining and ensuring the reliability of the IT services required by the operations of Kela and Kanta Services for both Kela and Kela’s contractual partners in cooperation with Kela’s other units. The Unit is also responsible for data protection, data security and security services at Kela.
In addition, the Unit plays a key role in Eepos, Kela’s strategic development programme that aims to reform Kela’s benefit administration systems.
Information Services is responsible for compiling, managing and utilising information resources and products and developing them further to address the needs of internal and external clients.
The Strategic Management Unit is responsible for Kela's operational development and strategic management, personnel and financial management and for the coordination of legislative development and stakeholder relations.
The Communications Unit is responsible for delivering communications to clients, media and staff.
The Internal Audit is an operational unit which reports directly to the Director General.
