Parliament has decided on expanded Kela reimbursement for private healthcare costs from 1 May 2025 onwards. The expansion affects physiotherapy, dental care and gynaecological examinations and treatment.

There will be a number of changes to Kela benefits and their eligibility criteria in 2025. Some of the changes will take effect at the beginning of 2025, others not until later in the year. Many of the changes affect benefits for young people and students. There will also be changes to sickness benefits.

Changes to Kela benefits in 2025

For persons receiving housing allowance for pensioners, income and assets will have a greater effect in reducing the allowance starting from 1 January 2025. An indexation freeze that was put in place earlier will also be extended. This means that the amounts of heating, water and maintenance costs and the maximum housing costs recognised in the pensioners’ housing allowance scheme will not go up in 2025.

There will be several changes to Kela’s benefits in 2025, affecting both benefit rates and eligibility criteria. Read on to find out if the changes affect your benefits. We will automatically adjust any benefits currently being paid to you.

How Kela benefits will change in 2025

A new pilot study on freedom of choice in healthcare starts on 1 September 2025. During the pilot study, persons aged 65 or over can see a private general practitioner and only have to pay up to the price of the local user fee charged by public healthcare providers. This price applies if the doctor is participating in the pilot study. The pilot study will affect more than 20% of the total population in Finland.

The Government is proposing to amend the Health Insurance Act to allow persons aged 65 or over to see a private general practitioner by paying a copayment equal to the local user fee charged by primary healthcare providers operating in the public sector. The proposal is part of a trial aimed at improving older adults’ access to primary healthcare and reducing waiting times for public health services.

Parliament has approved the reintroduction of Kela reimbursement for fertility treatments administered by private healthcare providers. The amendment will enter into force on 1 May 2025. The aim is to improve the status of individuals and couples who have been unable to conceive due to medical reasons.

Kela will stop paying national pensions to recipients in countries other than Finland that apply EU regulations as from 1 February 2025. This change will also have an impact on which country is responsible for the costs of a person’s medical treatment and on whether they can receive care allowance for pensioners. Further, the change may affect the amount of national pension received by persons who now live in Finland but have in the past lived or worked in an EU or EEA country, Switzerland or the United Kingdom.

OmaKelan nimissä liikkuu tällä hetkellä paljon huijausviestejä, joiden kautta rikolliset yrittävät saada haltuunsa suomalaisten henkilötietoja. Viestin vastaanottajaa saatetaan pyytää esimerkiksi avaamaan linkkejä, kirjautumaan verkkopalveluun pankkitunnuksillaan tai lähettämään omia tietojaan. Kalasteluviesteillä kerätyt tiedot voivat päätyä rikollisten käsiin. Kela ei koskaan kysy henkilötietoja sähköpostitse tai tekstiviestillä. Kelan verkkopalveluun voi kirjautua turvallisesti vain osoitteessa www.kela.fi.

Just nu sprids ett flertal bluffmeddelanden i MittFPA:s namn. Via dessa meddelanden försöker brottslingar komma åt finländarnas personuppgifter. Mottagaren av meddelandet kan till exempel bli ombedd att öppna länkar, logga in på en onlinetjänst med sina bankuppgifter eller att skicka sin egen information. Information som samlas in genom nätfiskemeddelanden kan hamna i händerna på kriminella. FPA ber aldrig om personuppgifter per e-post eller sms. Det är bara på adressen www.fpa.fi som det är tryggt att logga in på MittFPA-sidorna.
