How to apply for rehabilitation allowance
Follow the below instructions when applying for rehabilitation allowance, partial rehabilitation allowance, rehabilitation allowance for young persons or maintenance allowance.
Apply for the rehabilitation allowance online
You can send the claim and supporting documentation through Kela's e-service. Documents photographed with a mobile phone are accepted if the pictures are clear and legible.Apply for benefits
- Apply for the rehabilitation allowance online. Log in to Kela's e- service (in Finnish and Swedish only) using your online banking credentials or a mobile ID.
- Scan or take a photo of any supporting documents and send them online. Enclose the following with the application:
- a written decision concerning the rehabilitation, if the rehabilitation services are arranged by some other organisation than Kela Ask the organisation that issued the rehabilitation decision to complete the Kela form titled Ilmoitus kuntoutuspäätöksestä /Notice of rehabilitation decision ( KU114, PDF in Finnish)
a personal education and rehabilitation plan and a doctor’s statement B form (KU 110, PDF) if you are applying for rehabilitation allowance for young persons
a doctor’s statement B, if you are applying for a rehabilitation allowance for the duration of apprenticeship training
The rehabilitation allowance is determined on the basis of an annual income. Kela usually receives information on wages and salaries from the national incomes register, so this information need not be reported to Kela separately. Read more on the annual income.
a statement from your employer detailing the amount of income you have received during the previous six months, if it is at least 20% higher than the income confirmed for tax purposes.
Visit Kela's e-service to see if your application has been decided. You can also see any possible reminders concerning, for instance, documents missing from your application.
Alternatively you can fill in and print out the application for a rehabilitation allowance (KU112, PDF) or, if you are applying for a rehabilitation allowance for young persons, the application for a rehabilitation allowance for young persons (KU111, PDF). Mail your application along with the supporting documents to Kela, PL 10, 00056 KELA.
When to apply
Apply for rehabilitation allowance, partial rehabilitation allowance, rehabilitation allowance for young persons or maintenance allowance within four months of the date on which you want the payment to begin.
