How does moving affect Kela benefits?

Moving can affect the benefits you get from Kela. This can be the case for instance if you move into a new flat or house, move in with your partner, or if a child moves in with you. Notify Kela if you move and if needed, submit a new application or request that your benefits are reviewed.

You can notify the move or request a review of your benefits in the OmaKela e-service or on a Kela form. If you cannot handle the matter online or on a form, call Kela, make an appointment for phone service, or visit a customer service point.

Remember to file a notification of move

You need not tell Kela if your address changes. Once you have filed a notification of move, we will get your new address automatically from the Population Information System. File a notification of move with the Digital and Population Data Services Agency.

If you move into a new flat or house

Moving into a new flat or house can affect the benefits you receive from Kela. It can also affect the benefits of those who stay in the old home and of those who live with you in the new home.

If you move into a new flat or house, your housing allowance for pensioners must be reviewed. Request a review in the OmaKela e-service or use the form AE1e. Please note that our e-service is only available in Finnish and Swedish.

Whether you get a municipal supplement on top of the regular child home care or private day care allowance depends on your home municipality. The municipal supplement must be reviewed if the municipality in which you are registered (your “home municipality”) changes. The municipal supplement is paid according to the municipality in which you are registered on the first day of the month. Request a review of the supplement in the OmaKela e-service or use the form WH1e. Please note that our e-service is only available in Finnish and Swedish.

The housing assistance for conscripts must be reviewed if you move. Apply for a review in the OmaKela e-service or use the SA1 form. Please note that our e-service is only available in Finnish and Swedish.

If you move to another town or city, contact the local TE Services to register as an unemployed jobseeker. Next time you complete an unemployment status report in the OmaKela e-service or on the TT2e form, state that you have moved. Please note that our e-service is only available in Finnish and Swedish.

If you move together with a partner or you have a child move in with you

Living together with a partner or with a child can affect many of the benefits available from Kela. Tell Kela if you move together with an unmarried partner or with a child. You do not have tell Kela if you get married because that information will be available to Kela from the Population Information System.

Eligilibity for child maintenance allowance ends if the eligible child moves in with the person liable for maintenance.

If you start living in the same household as a minor child that you are providing for, you may be entitled to a child increase to your pension. Apply for a child increase on the EV264 form.

National pensions are smaller for persons who are married or living together than for those who live alone. If you get married or move in with a partner, apply for a review in the OmaKela e-service or use the E285 form. Please note that our e-service is only available in Finnish and Swedish.

If you get married or move in with a partner, you will not be eligible for a single-parent supplement. Apply for a review in the OmaKela e-service or use the LL1e form. Please note that our e-service is only available in Finnish and Swedish.

The amount of the income-tested care supplement, which can be part of the child home care and private day care allowances, depends on family size and the income of the recipient’s spouse or partner. If the number of persons in your family changes, apply for a review in the OmaKela e-service or use the WH1e form. Please note that our e-service is only available in Finnish and Swedish.

The income-tested additional amount payable with a surviving spouse’s pension is smaller for those who are married or living together. If your family circumstances change, apply for a review on the EV277 form.

Housing assistance for conscripts must be reviewed if the number of persons sharing a flat or house changes, or there is a change of residence. Apply for a review on form SA1.

Your spouse’s income, assets and expenses affect the amount of social assistance you can get. Your children’s expenses, and in some cases their income, are relevant as well. When appropriate, apply for a review in the OmaKela e-service or use the form TO1e. Please note that our e-service is only available in Finnish and Swedish.
